The madras electric trades association, popularly known as META was established in the year 1942. Today, about 1400 members are part of this body, which was formed with the primary aim to restore price stability for electrical products that are imported. Now the role of the association has widened broadly to include protecting the trading community, educating the members on various aspects of the trade including government regulation apart from organizing exhibitions to create trade awareness. |
META also organizes from time to time constructive interaction between various government departments like Commercial tax, Quality Control Department, Labour Department etc., and the electrical industry. META has grown to acquire its own office premises in Govindappa Naicken Street and also has its own building called META HOUSE at Pantheon Road, Egmore. |
META is the founder member of Federation of All India Electric Trade Association [FAIETA] and also the founder member of Federation of Electrical, Electronics and Engineering Trade Association of Tamil Nadu [FEEETAT]. META is also a member in Hindustan Chamber of Commerce, Southern India Chamber of Commerce, Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Federation of Madras Merchants and Manufacturers Association, ( FMMMA). |
The Association celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 1967 .Golden Jubilee in the year 1992 and Diamond Jubilee in the year 2003.

META have contributed their might for Chief Minister Public Relief Fund, TamilNadu, Chief Minister Public Relief Fund, Rajasthan, Kargil War Victims Welfare fund, Gujarat Earth Quake Relief, Rehabilitation of School children by construction of School in the village at Kutch and Many more. |
ELECTRICA EXHIBITIONS:- ELECTRICA will act as the showcase for all kinds of products and innovations. Trends in technology and the latest products in the electrical world would be showcased. Electrica 2000 was held in July 1999, Electrica 2002 was held in August 2001 and Electrica 2004 was held in August 2003, Electrica 2006 was held in August 2006 which attracted about 35,000 visitors and transacted business of about Rs.150 Million worth in three days. Electrica 2008, an Exhibition on Electrical products, is scheduled to take place on the 15th, 16th and 17th of August 2008 at Rani Meyyammai and Raja Muthaiah Halls, Egmore from 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. The event is expected to attract a vast number of builders, contractors, architects, interior designers, Manufacturers, dealers and distributors, engineers and consultants. ELECTRICA 2008 will be an ideal platform for the entire electrical industry to come face to face with the end user. The exhibition would be an opportunity for the exhibitors to get exposure for the latest electrical products and technology to target visitors and thereby create potential customers.
